I Sell Vintage Chintz - I Also Love H&M Home

A thoughtful take on mixing vintage pieces with affordable modern finds, showing how characterful interiors can be created by balancing antiques, unique details, and clever high-street choices.

I spend a lot of time thinking about old things. The particular solidity of an old dining chair, the chip on the edge of a vintage plate, the depth of colour in an old textile. As an antiques dealer, I’m drawn to objects with a past; things that have lived somewhere, meant something to someone, and carry that quiet weight into a new home. My greatest rule when it comes to decorating is this: your house should look like nobody else’s, and wonderfully unique things do just that.

The problem, of course, is that it tends to cost rather a lot. Take curtains. Before you've even thought about what they'll look like, there's the fabric to source, the making to organise, and then the sobering realisation that they'll only ever fit that one specific window. Move house and you're starting from scratch.

But here’s what I also believe: the magic of a well-decorated room isn’t about spending everywhere. It’s about spending wisely in some places, and being brilliantly clever in others. The mix of old and new, of the irreplaceable and the surprisingly affordable - that tension is what brings a room to life.

Which brings me, perhaps unexpectedly, to H&M and Zara Home. Go and have a look.
